No Public Meetings in Oct or Nov
This past weekend, we launched the 2011 Organizing Institute! The OI will continue through mid-November. Because most of CARW’s capacity is currently dedicated to supporting the OI and our ally groups, there will be no public meetings in October or November.
Watch the list & website for upcoming meetings and opportunities to connect with CARW.

Anti-Racist Movie Night — Friday, Sept. 30th at 7:30pm
Join the Coalition of Anti-Racist Whites a movie night screening of…
The Enemy
A powerful film about Imperialism, Racism & the Philippines
Date: Friday, September 30 at 7:30pm
Location: Third Space, in the INScape Building (in the International District, 815 Airport Way S.)*
Cost: $5 – $100 (however much you’d like to donate would be great!)
All funds go to support the work of Pin@y sa Seattle
The Enemy, a documentary created entirely by the Filipino filmmakers’ collective Southern Tagalog Exposure, fearlessly exposes US imperialism as the root of oppression and poverty in Philippine society. The work seeks to arouse audiences to understand and be one with the struggle of the Filipino people, past and present, for a country and a world that is free from the shackles of imperialism.
The film takes a close look at the role racism has continued to play in the imperialist relationship between the United States and the Philippines, with a critical examination of the oppression faced by Muslim and Indigenous peoples in the Philippines under the U.S.-led War on Terror.
* Directions: The Third Space is on the ground floor, back side, at the INScape Building – 815 Airport Way S. Third Space is, conveniently, the third space over on the building’s back side (there will be signs).
INScape is south of Uwajimaya, across Airport Way from a Shell Station. By car, it’s best reached by turning from Jackson onto 5th Ave. heading south (away from downtown). Follow 5th Ave. three blocks, then take the soft left onto Airport Way, then an immediate right into the building’s driveway. We have free parking behind the building! By bus, we’re a short walk from the International District tunnel stop.

Troy Davis Vigil
Stop the Legal Lynching of Troy Davis. Stop the Execution!
Wednesday, September 21st, 2011
Speakout and Vigil 3-6pm at Westlake 4th & Pine, Downtown Seattle
More info: http://amnestyseattle.org/?p=358
Be there to say that we refuse to accept the murder of Troy Davis!
We will not be silent! Spread the word everywhere! If you have creative ideas
of letting the world know that millions of people refuse to let this murder go
down without strong resistance let us know and spread the spirit of resistance.
A minister from Atlanta chained himself to the flagpole outside the Georgia
Parole Board offices in the last 24hours.
On Sept. 20th Georgia’s Board of Pardons and Paroles rejected 42 year old Troy Davis’s last appeal from death row. Troy is scheduled to be executed Wednesday, September 21st at 7pm Eastern Standard Time.
From Amnesty International "The case against him consisted entirely of witness
testimony which contained inconsistencies even at the time of the trial. Since
then, all but two of the state’s non-police witnesses from the trial have
recanted or contradicted their testimony. Many of these witnesses have stated
in sworn affidavits that they were pressured or coerced by police into
testifying or signing statement against Troy Davis."
This is what legal lynching looks like in 2011. The case of Troy Anthony Davis
is yet another screaming indictment of the injustice of the courts, the police,
and repression.
Find out more about this case at troyanthonydavis.org Troy tonight from prison
has said keep fighting for the all the Troy Davis’s.

Please stand with Troy and his family. Tell District Attorney Larry Chisolm that he has to intercede:
http://action.naacp.org/Ask-DA-Chisolm-To-Help
Chatham County District Attorney Larry Chisolm is the man who requested the death warrant against Troy Davis. He’s the glue that holds the case together and, even after today’s news, he remains in a unique position to petition the judge to withdraw the death warrant against Troy. It’s a long shot, but it’s Troy’s best hope.
Please, our last hope is to change the heart of District Attorney Chisolm. Sign today, and we will make sure that every name is hand delivered to his office.

Coalition of Anti-Racist Whites Public Meeting
Wednesday, September 14th
6:00 pm Potluck & 6:30 Meeting
Location: Metrocenter YMCA (909 4th Ave, Seattle)
Have you heard about the upcoming Anti-Racist White Organizing Institute (OI)? Are you interested in learning more about it from the people who have been through it and those who will be leading the OI this year? Maybe you even read about CARW in the recent Stranger article and want to learn more?
The September Public Meeting of CARW will be an opportunity to hear more about the 6-week long institute and get a taste for the types of activities and subjects we will be covering in this year’ OI. The first half of the meeting will be led by OI participants from previous years who are also helping to lead and facilitate this year’s OI. The Institute is an all volunteer led series of workshops for white people who want to deepen their analysis and skills for bringing about racial justice. This is a great opportunity for activists, service corps members, students and those working for social change in their lives, workplaces or places of worship. More info on the OI is below, including how to apply.
See you there!
CARW Public Meetings
Whether you are currently active in CARW or just wanting to learn more about how to be an anti-racist white ally, please join us at our regular public meetings held on the 2nd Wednesday of every month. Each meeting starts with a potluck, followed by a brief introduction/opening and then a community- and analysis-building educational activity or discussion. There is a different topic or theme each month. After a short break, the rest of the meeting will be time for people involved in CARW projects to meet with their teams, make plans, and share important information with the larger group.
Invitation to Social Justice Fund dinner
As a long-time member of CARW and Director of Social Justice Fund, I want to invite you to Social Justice Fund’s annual dinner next Saturday!
If you aren’t familiar with the organization, Social Justice Fund works with cross-race/cross-class groups to raise money and make grants to support people of color-led, grassroots social change organizations throughout the region. Unlike traditional philanthropy in which people with access to wealth drive the agenda, Social Justice Fund strives for accountability to our diverse membership and to the movements we fund.
It should be a really fun event and I hope to see you there! Tickets are available on a sliding scale $50-150.
In solidarity,
Zeke
