Workshop on Understanding White Privilege and Racial Inequities and Health
&
Fall 2010 Organizing Institute Information Session
CARW members will present a version of their workshop “Understanding White Privilege and Racial Inequities in Health” that was presented at the 2010 Race Conference. We explore how ending racism is essential not only for the health of communities of color, but also for white people’s health as well. We will explore the question: How would white folks benefit health-wise; emotionally, relationally, physically, mentally, materially, and spiritually if racism ended?
In the second half of the meeting we will share information about CARW’s 2010 Anti-Racist White Organizing Institute. The institute is an interactive, dialogue based anti-racist workshop for white folks by white folks. It will be centered on strengthening analysis and skills in challenging institutional racism and white privilege while we strengthen relationships among white folks committed to racial justice. The OI runs from October 13-November 17 and we are currently accepting applications (visit http://carw.org/organizing-institute/ for a copy)

Whether you are currently active in CARW or just wanting to learn more about how to be an anti-racist white ally, please join us! Our regular public meetings are typically held on the 2nd Wednesday of every month, so you can mark your calendar for the year.
Each meeting will start with an optional potluck, followed by a brief introduction/opening and then a community- and analysis-building educational activity or discussion. There will be a different topic each month. After a short break, the rest of the meeting will be time for people involved in CARW projects to meet with their teams, make plans, and share important information with the larger group. We have a lot of important ally work happening supporting people of color-led organizations for 2010, so come get involved!
See you there!
