The August CARW meeting this Wednesday will be held at Solid Ground in Wallingford, NOT at Cascade People’s Center.

We’re excited to announce that the educational part of this month’s CARW meeting will consist of a panel discussion hosted by El Comité Pro-Reforma Migratoria y Justicia Social (The Committee for Immigration Reform and Social Justice) about past and present struggles for immigrant rights. Local leaders in the immigrant rights movement will share their experiences as immigrant organizers in the context of a national movement for immigration reform that is gaining momentum and strength.
As described by El Comité, panelists will include Jorge Quiroga, former refugee from Argentina, internationalist at heart, tortured and imprisoned for his beliefs; Sandra Aguila, Salvadoran refugee, a fighter and champion of the working class; Antonio Flores, P’urepecha nation member and organizer, Gaby Cubillos, community organizer and ex-detainee from the Tacoma Detention Center, and Juan Jose “Pepe” Colmenares, a dedicated fighter for worker’s rights, newly released from the Tacoma Detention Center. The panel will be moderated by Juan Jose Bocanegra, long-time local leader in the struggle for immigrant and worker’s rights.

Whether you are currently active in CARW or just wanting to learn more about how to be an anti-racist white ally, please join us! Our regular public meetings are typically held on the 2nd Wednesday of every month, so you can mark your calendar for the year.
Each meeting will start with an optional potluck, followed by a brief introduction/opening and then a community- and analysis-building educational activity or discussion. There will be a different topic each month. After a short break, the rest of the meeting will be time for people involved in CARW projects to meet with their teams, make plans, and share important information with the larger group. We have a lot of important ally work happening supporting people of color-led organizations for 2010, so come get involved!
See you there!
