Reading Group:
Dealing with issues ranging from colonialism, migration to cultural work, these study sessions will use a white anti-racist lens to explore the thought and resistance of Filipinas. Additionally, we hope to explore the complexity of racism facing Filipina/o communities in the United States as well as how racism intersects with other forms of oppression such as sexism, heteronormativity, capitalism and colonialism. As we raise funds for this delegation, we also intend to educate white people on this important history and theory. For these three class series we are requesting a minimum $80 donation.
Background:
For nearly a year, a core group of CARW organizers has been providing childcare at the meetings and events of Pinay sa Seattle. As white people, we strategically organized to support the capacity and leadership of Filipina mothers in the group. In an effort to expand our strategy, we have set the goal to fundraise $1000 to send Pinay sa Seattle members to the International Women’s Conference in Montreal. Centering the voices of women of global south and women of color, the conference will emphasize issues of colonialism, migration, sexual violence, sexuality, and transnational liberation & solidarity. There will be a wide range of fierce speakers and participants coming from Canada, USA, Mexico, Africa, Guatemala, Indonesia, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines, India, Belgium and Nepal.
*As a fund raising effort with a specific goal, we are requesting that people pay $80 for these classes. However, please do not hesitate to contact us (oneilltsean) if you are interested and are unable to pay the full amount. Similarly, if you do not have time to take the classes, but want to make a donation please contact us for details.
