Support low-income USSF participants!

June 14, 2010

What do you get when you add 1,000 workshops and people’s movement assemblies + 225 cultural performances + 14,000 activists from the U.S. and around the globe + 5 days in Detroit?

THE U.S. SOCIAL FORUM!

Please help CARW meet our fundraising commitment to support low-income people in from our community in attending USSF!

The 2010 Social Forum (6/22-26 in Detroit), is an opportunity for organizers and activists from our community to connect with national movement building, and to build knowledge, skills, and networks for future progressive work in our region and beyond. (ussf2010.org).

Many people have put energy into fundraising to cover travel and housing costs. LELO, Legacy of Equality, Leadership, and Organizing, strives “to empower low-income workers of color, recent immigrants and women workers to assert their rights, improve their working conditions and gain a voice in their workplaces, trade unions and communities,” (lelo.org). LELO, one of CARW’s ally groups this year, is coordinating the Northwest Delegation to USSF, organizing funds to support low-income people, young people, and People of Color from various organizations to participate (and lead!) at the Social Forum.

CARW has committed to raising $1,000 in solidarity with LELO to fund community members to attend the US Social Forum. We are only ½ way to that goal, and in order to reach that goal, we ask for your support. Please consider donating, as we are confident that with enough generous CARW donations, we can fill our fundraising gap.

As the Social Forum tagline states, “Another world is possible, another US is necessary…” and funds are necessary to make it happen! By investing in people from our community though supporting LELO, we are contributing towards racial justice in our city, country, and world.
