Racial Justice Book Clubs!

Join a CARW book club for racial justice! Space still available!

As a group of white people working to end racism, one way we can enact our principles is by financially supporting organizations led by people of color. This year, we are working to raise $5,000-10,000 for CARA: Communities against Rape and Abuse, a local, community-based anti-violence organization led by women of color.

You can help by joining a book group! In the process, you will also have the opportunity to raise your awareness of white privilege and how violence affects women of color while building community with other white people struggling for racial justice.

Here’s how it works.

Book groups will begin in March 2009 and will meet 3 times over the course of the month. You will be responsible for acquiring Color of Violence: The INCITE! Anthology. You can get the book from Elliott Bay Book Company in Pioneer Square (you’ll get a 20% discount if you tell them you’re with the CARW book club) or it can be ordered online.

Cascade People’s Center

*Mondays: March 16th & 30th & April 13th

6:30-8:30 pm

Please feel free to bring your dinner and eat as we discuss the book.

The book groups cost $50. This is a fundraiser. We are trying to raise money for CARA. We are happy to take your donation in pieces over the course of the book club meetings.

*Other groups are also taking place in people’s homes. If you cannot make it on Mondays, please contact us and we will see if we can find a book group for you.

RSVP by March 9th so we know how many people to expect and you can get information about how much to have read for the first meeting.
