Anti-Racist White Organizing Institute
Wednesdays, October 1st to November 19th 6-9:30pm at Cascade People’s Center (309 Pontius Ave. N.)
CARW is excited to present “Anti-Racist White Organizing Institute 2008”. The institute is an interactive, dialogue based anti-racist workshop for white folks by white folks. It will be centered on strengthening analysis and skills in challenging institutional racism and white privilege while we strengthen relationships among white folks committed to racial justice. A key goal of the Institute is to organize white folks into racial justice campaigns supporting people of color-led organizations.
This eight week program will be designed to develop organizing skills, build community, deepen anti-racist analysis, and examine and design specific Seattle/King County campaign strategies. These campaigns will be a springboard for anti-racism in action throughout 2009 for CARW. This institute will develop leadership skills to bring campaigns from ideas to effective and sustainable change in the community. The learning community will encompass organizers from a wide range of backgrounds. We welcome those new to the idea of organizing and those with experience as well.
Special needs: If you have special needs such as childcare or disability accommodations, we will do our best to meet your needs, on request. If you need any special accommodations, please notify us in advance.
Institute Cost: we ask for a $100 donation (or sliding scale of $5-$95 if you are low income) to help cover the costs of the institute and support people of color-led organizations.
Space: In order to facilitate a supportive learning environment, space is limited to 20- 25 participants.
Ongoing Commitment: The CARW Anti-Racist Organizing Institute is more than a training. We hope that all participants in the institute will be able to make a one-year commitment to participate in one of CARW’s organizing campaigns in 2009.
